The fort of Liezele is without doubt one of the best conserved forts of the fortified area of Antwerp. It was built in 1914 and withstood the ravages of two world wars. Today it is a historical gem located amid a natural preserve. A visit to Fort Liezele is a trip back through time, to the days of August 1914 and May 1940.
The fortress of Breendonk is a moving and striking example. It is one of the best conserved camps in Europe. The fortress has been renovated with the utmost respect for the historical truth. During the gripping visit you will discover the yard where the prisoners had to pass their days in forced hard labour, the torture room, the showers, the execution spot, the prisoners cells….
